Valentine's Advent Calendar

Well last year was a busy year and I didn't get around to doing a Christmas Advent Calendar, so why not do a Valentine's one? Right? Here are some quick instructions with a handful of photos to inspire you to make your own.

First, Cut your paper to make the envelopes. Use any paper of your choice. I used this cardstock I had on hand. I recomend using cardstock paper, plain paper might be too thin and tear when you place your goodies inside. Cut your pieces 7.5 inches by 3 inches. This will give you a 3 inch by 3 inch square.

Measure 3 inches up the long side and fold.

Now fold the top down to create your envelope.

Fold all 14 envelopes. Or if you are like my family each kid needed their own Advent Calendar so 3 kids equals 42 envelopes!

I sewed around the edges of the envelope to hold it shut. I like how the stitches gives it a little bit of a "fancy" look. But, don't worry if you do not have a sewing machine or you just don't want to sew, simply take some double-sided tape or glue and secure the sides down.

Pretty little envelopes ready to be decorated by 3 pretty little girls.

Gather up your supplies to decorate with. We used paper heart doilies, scrap paper, buttons, stickers, corner punch, twine, tape and a hot glue gun.

First up, Vera. (Along with the help of Mom) She spent the majority of her time taping envelope number 14. Scroll down to see. She did do numbers 10, 12, 13 and 14 by herself. (Don't mind the blurry photos of the kids! Oops! I didn't realize until after the fact).

Next up, Lila who apparently loves the glue gun!

And last but not least, Bella!

One set was hung up on the chalkboard in the "boot room". Or what other people call the "mud room". Simply take some twine and clothespins to hang up envelopes. Or you could use paperclips or tape.

The other two went on the blanket ladder. Blanket ladders are so versatile, cross-functional and a make a great statement piece. Not just for blankets anymore. I could of hung all three calendars on it but I needed some Valentine Decor in the boot room.

Pudge had to get in the photo too!
